How do you know if you need an Atlas correction?

If you have headaches, TMD or TMJ pain, neck pain, arm or leg pain, back pain, or any other chronic pain condition, then you are likely to have a displaced or dislocation atlas.

What causes a misalignment?

The primary cause is trauma or repetitive micro-trauma. This may include an accidental slip and fall, "whiplash" during a car accident, a blow to the head, sports-related injuries, sleeping with inadequate pillow support, poor posture while sitting in front of a computer screen, and incorrect lifting or carrying methods.

The method developed by Dr. Knudsen is so gentle that it is almost risk-free. So, the potential for pain relief is well worth your valuable time and hard-earned money. What's most intriguing and convincing to potential patients is that Dr. Knudsen's method is likely covered by your insurance plan.

The following video may answer more of your questions. It describes the problem and why a gentle Atlas correction is required to improve many chronic pain conditions, including: tension headaches, migraines, neck pain, back pain, herniated discs, sciatica, TMJ, fibromyalgia, etc.

How could a small bone at the top of the neck cause so many problems?

When the Atlas is not in its proper postition it immediately throws off the balance of the body. This shows up in postural distortions in one of more parts of the body: head tilt, shoulder height, ribcage, torso, pelvis and leg length. Poor body balance primarily occurs in the hips, so when the Atlas is displaced you often end up with a short leg.

Correcting the position of the Atlas may markedly improve body balance. This is why we document the change with photographs.

An Atlas Position Correction is specifically designed to correct head/neck misalignment and to restore body balance. This allow health messages to be relayed back and forth between the body and brain. The entire spine then slowly begins to "decompress," straighten, unwind and relax.

Even better news is that after a correction other treatments and therapies tend to work, when they previously did not.

It is so gentle that many patients just feel pressure. It is not a chiropractic manipulation; there is no forceful pulling, twisting or jerking motion of your neck. Much of the time the area in the upper neck will be sore to the touch when there is a more severe mis-alignment. After a correction this soreness usually goes away.

Each correction may take only 10 seconds or as long as 3 minutes. This depends upon the severity of the problem. Dr. Knudsen may repeat the correction 2 or 3 times until he is satisfied.

Standing posture and supine leg length checks are performed before and after the technique to see changes in spine alignment and improvement in postural distortion.

The results are often instantaneous. It is common for headaches to resolve immediately following an Atlas re-alignment.

Why hasn't anyone else told you about this problem?

Very few practitioners in the United States understand the crucial role of the Atlas and how it affects the alignment of the entire spine. They don't understand that a malfunction in this area can lead to a “cascade” of detrimental effects on the entire skeleton and practically any muscle. It creates imbalances and misalignments that may extend all the way down into the lower limbs. What's more important? Even fewer know how to treat the problem.

This next video shows the changes that may occur with this technique. The spine must be aligned properly to maintain optimal health and well-being.
