LOW BACK PAIN

Have you been told you have a HERNIATED DISK, SPINAL STENOSIS, SCOLIOSIS or a LUMBAR STRAIN? Low back pain is the #1 injury that leads to disability in the United States. Are you tired of being in pain all the time? Give us a call!

What to expect on your First visit

During your initial evaluation at Muscle IQ you will receive a comprehensive assessment from a highly skilled physical therapist. Our therapists each have over 18 years of experience. (Click Here for Bios) . We will listen to your story. We want to know how you were injured, when your pain started, and how it has affected your active life. We will assess your motion, your spinal positioning, and your muscle strength. We will identify your problem areas and begin treatment on the very first day. Our manual therapy treatment method follows the Fascial Distortion Model (More about FDM) .You should expect to start seeing some improvement on the very first visit (i.e., more motion, more strength, less pain). We have seen from experience that most people with chronic low back pain are deconditioned. Strong muscles protect against re-injury. On your first visit we will begin a Muscle Rehab Program that will start you on the road to recovery.

How strong are your muscles?

Strong muscles protect. With musculoskeletal pain there is almost always muscle weakness. At Muscle IQ we can test specific back, neck, shoulder and knee muscle strength using our computerized David medical exercise equipment. (Click Here for More Info) . The computerized measurement system captures mobility and strength in all movement planes. These values are compared to reference values matched to a patient's age, gender, height, and weight. This allows us to track progress in strength and range of motion of the spine. An individualized exercise program is generated based on these measurements. We believe a full recovery requires a return to normal back muscle strength. With the test results from the David machines we can tell our patients how far they are from normal strength. We retest strength and range of motion at set intervals. We can objectively prove the gains our patients are making in strength with our testing reports. Your doctor or your insurance company will also like seeing your progress.

The Fascial Distortion Model(FDM) for Back Pain

We are the only physical therapy clinic in Utah that offers this type of examination and treatment for low back pain called fascial distortion model (FDM) FDM is presently the most effective manual pain therapy. By means of body language and pain description the therapist is immediately in the position to pinpoint the problem and help the patient with manual techniques. FDM is especially suitable for pain within the musculoskeletal system. Now, many "known" therapy-resistant conditions (chronic pain patients) can be successfully treated with FDM. Due to the quick therapy success, FDM has become very popular among athletes. Presently FDM is the fastest growing form of therapy in Europe, where Dr. Knudsen received training.

We also use the DonTigny approach to low back pain. And advanced muscle testing that is based on Dr. Knudsen's training in London, England. We think it is the perfect combination of examination, manual therapy, and medical exercise to fix your back pain fast.

What others are saying about muscle IQ.

Muscle IQ Physical Therapy is amazing!!! Their staff is very personable and great to be around. I came into their office in severe pain and unable to walk due to muscle weakness after having my twins. Dr. Knudsen worked specifically with my problems and listened to my concerns. I loved that they were able to measure my progress with their special equipment and help me get back to full functionality in 3 months. I was very skeptical of physical therapy due to bad past experiences, but they blew me out of the water with their hands on care!! -Trisha J.
